Picturesque Black Lake in Zabljak
Let's go on a trip from Budva to the north of Montenegro, where surrounded by centuries-old forests picturesque Black Lake (Montenegrin. Crno Jezero), the most recognizable of the 18 glacial lakes of the majestic mountain range Durmitor.
Durmitor National Park is located in the direction Zabljak - Trsa - Pluzhine. The lake is at an altitude of 1418 meters above sea level, a few kilometers from the city of Zabljak.
The road will take about 3 hours along the picturesque canyons: through Podgorica (highway E80) to Kolashin, along the river Morača canyon and further along the Tara river canyon along P4 road, then to automobile arch bridge Djurdjevich Tara (Đurđevića Tara) and to Zhabljak along the P5 road.
The second route is along the new E762 and P5 highways to Podgorica, then through Niksic and Shavnik. The path will also be about 200 km.
Another option is to drive through Kotor along with the P11 and M6 highways to Niksic, then towards Pluzine along the M18 road, across the Durmitor plateau to Zabljak, about 185 km. All paths will take 3 hours in time.
Named after the majestic mountain range, Durmitor park was created in 1952 and in 1980 listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and natural aesthetics.
Lake of glacial origin, located in the municipality of Zabljak on the mountain Durmitor since time immemorial, at an altitude of 1418 meters above sea level in a few kilometers from the town.
This lake is magical in its beauty in Durmitor park, annually attracts thousands of tourists with its high mountain location and ancient origin.
The interesting fact is, that Black lake consists of two different lakes: large and small, connected by nature narrow strait, thus the name of the lake: "mountain eyes" is said to have developed. The amazing depths of these lakes - Veliko jezero (Great lake) and Malo jezero (Small lake) — amaze guests of Durmitor's park.
Small lake is especially deep in comparison with its area: with a diameter of 500 meters depth reaches 50 meters.
Another interesting note is: during floods, water from a large lake goes deep into the soil, passes under of the Tara river canyon and, coming to the surface, becomes its right tributary. It is imporant to mention that this is the first largest canyon in Europe, and in the world is only the Grand Canyon in the USA in the state of Arizona is ahead of its size. From a small lake, water flows into Komarnitsa river, from there to Piva river, and then to Drinu river, which was the natural border between the Western Roman and Eastern Roman Empires in the past.
Black Lake is а popular tourist destination in the Durmitor area. It one of the largest and most famous glacial lakes of Montenegro.
The lake is easily accessible from Zabljak and on foot, walking to the mountains along a few cafes and shops. Along the lake itself a track of about 3.5 km is laid, which is a popular destination for lovers of bright, catchy photos.
A little further from the lake is a restaurant serving traditional Montenegrin dishes. Boat rental is organized for those who wish to ride a boat on the emerald surface of the lake and admire the transparency of water and it's purity.

Numerous tourist destinations are laid out from Black Lake - quite trails with signs for hiking surrounded by endless green pines and silence, so in summer fans of outdoor activities and long walking tours can fully enjoy hiking, in cold season there is an opportunity to go climbing and skiing.
