Mostar town

On the way to the city of Mostar to Bosnia and Herzegovina by car

We are heading from Budva to Trebinje and further to Mostar and its surrounding area full of interesting sights. You can also start your journey from Herceg Novi by walking through this green city and appreciating its Old Town surrounded by many romantic staircases.

Let's shorten the circular road through the Bay of Kotor through the ferry, sailing with a car on a ferry from Lapetane to Kamenari.

On the road from Trebinje to Ljubinje, you can turn off the highway to the village of Mrkonichi - the birthplace of the famous Holy Father Vasily Ostroshka - the one whose miraculous relics rest in the high rocky monastery of Ostrog. The tiny Mrkonichi village is located on the eastern side of Popova Pole - a pointer to the village of Zavala. Further along the way cross the Trebišnica river, already known from Trebinje, by the bridge near the village of Ravno. There are few cars and it is convenient to leave on a single-lane road.

Or just drive from the Tvdosh monastery to the village of Zavala about - a distance of 50 kilometers. Turning off the highway and passing the huge valley of Trebishnitsa Popovo Pole to the village of Zavala with the monastery of the same name of the 15th century on the slope of Mount Ostrog. From the gates of the Zavala Monastery, a picturesque view of the entire green valley opens, the fertile lands of which he owned in the past.

Half a kilometer from the monastery is the Vetrenitsa cave, and in the center of Zavala there is a whole museum dedicated to the cave - the most important attraction of the settlement, referred to as the first and only biospeleological museum in Europe.
Until now, completely unexplored by speleologists, its underground depths are likely to go to the coast of the Adriatic Sea already in Croatia. The largest cave in Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the largest in the world! Differs in a variety of underground inhabitants.

You can also go to the cave through the village of Budim Do.

Exploration of tens of kilometers of bowels of this cave continues! And on a sultry hot day, it's nice to get out of the car and feel the icy wind from the depths of the cave - the temperature inside reaches +10 degrees. The hand-made reliefs depicting hunting scenes are similar to those on the medieval tombstones of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

From the cave to the town of Stolac 45 kilometers, and to the end point of our journey - Mostar - 80 kilometers.

The Stolac town (33 kilometers from Mostar) - Ottoman architecture of the 17th-18th centuries, waterfalls within the city, a noisy city dam, a 300-year-old Batana Buzalko water mill, an arched Podgradsky bridge and an impressive Old Town - the huge Vidosh fortress of the 17th-18th centuries on the mountain above the city is the most impressive fortress of Herzegovina. The settlement of Stolac is rich in various open water bodies. Picturesque Bregava river and the Provalie waterfall also deserve some photos. From the side of the Benat waterfall against the background of the fortress Vidosh on the mountain is clearly visible. The atmosphere of the city, pierced by numerous canals of the river, will appeal to connoisseurs of antiquity - traces of the Ottoman period in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, buildings of the Austrian period, and monuments of the XIV-XV centuries are scattered in the vicinity. The place attracts more and more tourists every year, but remains as if was frozen in the Middle Ages.
In the days of Yugoslavia, along with the cities of Sarajevo and Mostar, Stolac was one of the most popular tourist centers, now it is actively recovering, continuing to enchant guests!
Around Stolac, you can see real ancient relics of the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina - the megalithic wall of the archaic city of Daorsona, erected 3,700 years ago, and the necropolis of streams near the villages of (Slavic title) Radimla and Bolyuni, which are protected by UNESCO.

On the way to Mostar travelers from Montenegro also pass through tiny Blagaj - 12 kilometers from Mostar. It is a charming town surrounded by wild pomegranate trees and evergreen cypresses. The view of the snow-white tekija (Blagaj tekija) is a rocky monastery of dervishes of the 16th century - against the background of a crevice of a mountain and a river, it seems to have been copied from a medieval picture. It is here in the rock that the emerald Buna begins, then it connects with the Neretva river in Mostar. The huge cave in the rock can be visited by inflatable boat. The only source of Buna is the noisy karst spring Vrelo Bune - another unique creation of nature, one of the largest sources of drinking water in Europe. According to ancient legends, it was from here that Bosnia and Herzegovina began. In this quiet serene place, it is pleasant to relax in one of the cafes from a long journey in the shade of oleanders, surrounded by silence and ancient Arab exoticism from the Ottoman Empire.

One of the most authentic cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina is Mostar. The symbol of the city is the Old Bridge on the Neretva river between the western part of the city with churches and churches and the eastern side with Muslim mosques.
50 kilometers southeast of Mostar, near the small town of Vrucica in the intermountain region, there is one of the most beautiful places in Bosnia and Herzegovina - the Kravice waterfall. The closest major point is the town of Chaplin, 20 kilometers from the border with Croatia.

A historical monument - the medieval residence of King Tvrtko I - the Počitelj fortress, or "stone city", of the 14th century, 30 kilometers south of Mostar on the high bank of the Neretva river in the village of the same name.

Experienced tourists offer to admire the luxurious nature of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the new Una National Park near the town of Bihac. This nature reserve is located very close to the popular Plitvice Lakes.
